Farewell From Sweden to Bhutan
On Saturday 11th June, Their Majesties King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia of Sweden have bid farewell to Bhutan following their successful, busy and colourful State Visit.
A farewell ceremony took place at Paros International Airport, amid brightly coloured flags and a large portrait of the King and Queen – symbolic of the high respect and genuine warmth shown to Their Majesties during the last few days. Princess Dechen Yangzom Wangchuck and Princess Kezang Choden Wangchuck escorted Their Majesties along a flower-lined red carpet towards the Drukair aircraft that took them on the first leg of their long journey home.
This State Visit has highlighted the desire for Bhutan to develop closer ties with other countries in Europe and beyond. It has also highlighted the warmth of the Bhutanese people and the magic of the all the traditions, ceremony and culture that Bhutan has to offer.
