This evening at Kensington Palace, the Duchess of Cambridge attended a dinner held to mark the 40th anniversary of SportsAid, one of her patronages.

Kate met with guests that included young athletes and ambassadors of the charity in the Sunken Gardens before the dinner in the King’s Gallery, where guests – including former swimmer Sharron Davies and Paralympian Tanni Grey-Thompson – feasted on English asparagus, seared beef fillet and a chocolate mousse with orange jam and almond praline ice cream.

The Duchess made a brief speech at the beginning of the dinner, in which she spoke of her love of sport and how she believes SportsAid has helped to foster sporting dreams within British athletes: “The brilliance of SportsAid is in really understanding just how much athletic competition gives to our country as a whole.  By investing in young sporting talent, they ensure that there is a strong pipeline of inspirational heroes.”

She also said she was looking forward to cheering on the British team during the Rio Olympics in August.

For the dinner, Kate wore a royal blue cold-shoulder dress from Roland Mouret, paired with black accessories and a pair of Cartier Trinity earrings.
