Queen Jetsun Pema Celebrates World Environment Day
Her Majesty Queen Jetsun Pema of Bhutan has helped celebrate World Environment Day today by inaugurating the new Thimphu Eco Park. The Park is located close to the Changangkha Lhakhang, the oldest temple in Thimpu, and comprises a large wetland area containing a diverse variety of flora and fauna.
The Gyaltsuen takes a keen and serious interest in the environment, as do many Bhutanese people, and during the event, she planted a tree to mark the occasion as well as meeting with students from around the area.
Later on, Her Majesty, who celebrated her birthday yesterday, opened a local produce shop, which will be supplied by farmers and rural communities from all over the country. The shop will include a large range of products not limited to food – traditional handicrafts will also be sold.
By all accounts, the Thimphu Eco Park will be a fascinating and enjoyable day out for locals and tourists alike – for Her Majesty also opened a restaurant serving traditional Bhutanese cuisine!
