Mary was greeted at the congress by a young girl named Elvira, who herself received life-saving treatment from emergency medical services four years ago when a piece of apple got stuck in her throat. Elvira shyly handed the Princess a bouquet of flowers before the duo took a few photos together.

Once inside the congress, Princess Mary was told about new technologies that will be used by emergency services in the future. The aim of the congress – which was attended by 1,000 practitioners from 32 countries around Europe – is to increase survival rates outside of hospitals of patients who suffer from cardiac arrest, as well as improve treatment for stroke and blood clot patients.
