Crown Princess Margareta Visits Galaţi
Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Margareta, Custodian of the Crown of Romania, and her husband, Prince Radu visited the city of Galaţi as part of her “inter-generational” project to support both children and the elderly by building “intergenerational centres”. The project is being supported by the Community Foundation Galati and shipyard firm Damen Shipyards Galati in the area.
The idea of the intergenerational centres is to create a place for children from poorer communities to go to after school and where volunteers from the older generation of local communities can come along to to help in supporting the children.
The results of the project benefit both generations: the children’s confidence is boosted by learning new things and getting inspiration and support from their elders, who themselves have a place to socialise and a purposeful way of using their vast experience and knowledge that they might not otherwise be able to do in their day to day lives.
