Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand has started a four-day official visit to Bhutan this week, arriving at Paro International Airport yesterday where she was greeted by Princess Sonam Dechan Wangchuck.  Afterwards, the Princess took the opportunity of visiting the Kyichu Monastery in Paro to take some photographs and to view the magnificent scenery of Taktshang.

Later on, Princess Sirindhorn  visited Wanakha Central School (CS) to check on the progress of an agricultural project that HRH funded in 2012.  Whilst there, she chatted to the students and planted a cypress tree in front of the main school building.

Earlier today, His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck granted an audience to Princess Sirindhorn at the Tashichhodzong – the royal and governmental palace in Thimphu. HRH also met with the King’s father, the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, King Jigme Singye Wangchuck.

The Princess wore an elegant lilac-coloured silk outfit comprising a traditional floor-length Bhutanese Kira with a matching fitted jacket of the Princess’s usual style. Both components were beautifully embroidered and combined the traditional styles of Thailand and Bhutan perfectly.

Princess Sirindhorn was escorted to the Dzong in a traditional Chibdrel procession – literally a procession of men on horseback. Upon arrival, Her Royal Highness was then gallantly assisted by the King to the magnificent Grand Kuenrey room of the Tashichhodzong, where monks perform their daily prayers in front of the huge statue of the Buddha. Here, they offered prayers and lit 1,000 butterlamps for the good health and long life of the Princess’s father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Later this evening, King Jigme and Queen Jetsam Pema will host a private dinner for Princess Sirindhorn at Lingkana Palace.
