Princess Maria of Romania Visits Moldova
HRH Princess Maria of Romania has been on an official visit to Moldova this week, her first trip to the country and the fourth official visit to the country by a member of the Romanian Royal Family this year alone.
On May 17th, the princess took a tour of the Academy of Economic Studies in Chisinau where she learned of its history. Later that day, she paid a visit to the High School of Fine Arts “Igor Vieru”, whose patrons include Princess Maria’s brother in law, Prince Radu. Clearly impressed with the school, the princess congratulated the students on their work.
The next day, Princess Maria arrived in Ialoveni, where she met the town’s mayor, Mr. Sergiu Armaşu, before laying a wreath at the monument for those who died in the War of Independence. Following on from this, the princess went to an Ialoveni Community House, a kindergarten school for children where she was greeted with baked bread and salt – a Moldovan tradition – and received hand-made gifts and flowers.
Also on the 18th May, Princess Maria visited the Milestii Mici winery where over 50km of underground galleries store and preserve Moldova’s high quality the wines.
Yesterday was Princess Marie’s last day in Moldova and she spent the day in the village of Butuceni where she visited the Curchi and Assumption Monasteries.
