Queen Letizia Marks World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day in Albacete
Spain’s Queen Letizia this morning attended a ceremony at the Palacio de Congresos in Albacete to mark World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, which is observed each May 8 on the anniversary of the birth of Henri Dunant, founder of the Red Cross.
In her speech, the Queen said that “few organisations awaken and inspire so much respect as does the Red Cross” and listed some of the words often invoked when thinking of the Red Cross as “solidarity, commitment, support, inclusion.”
She also thanked the organisation’s workers and volunteers for their effort to “pursue a more just society.”
During the event, Queen Letizia – in a simple black and white printed blouse and black pants – also delivered the Gold Medal of the Spanish Red Cross to several organisations and individuals which included the City of Albacete, the Spanish Association Against Cancer, and the Spanish Paralympic Committee.
