The Duchess of Cambridge this morning met with dozens of youngsters as she officially opened the new Magic Garden play area at Hampton Court Palace.

During her tour of the area – which has been designed with Tudor myths, legends and staying in mind – by architect Robert Myers, Kate spent time chatting with children who were invited to give the various activities their test-run.

While speaking to children at one of the feature points of the garden, a 25-ft long dragon, Kate said that Prince George would love the play area but he would have been “scared” of the dragon. She also revealed that a second pet has joined the Cambridge family – a hamster named Marvin.

The Duchess repeated a blue tweed Michael Kors coat for the engagement, paired with nude heels and a clutch.
