The Cambridges Kick Start Tour of India in Mumbai

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived in Mumbai this morning for their week-long tour of India and Bhutan.

Their first public appearance was at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, where they will be staying whilst in Mumbai. William and Kate laid a wreath at the memorial to those who were killed in the 2008 terrorist attack at the hotel and other areas of the city.

Kate arrival outfit is from Alexander McQueen, a red peplum top and matching skirt in a paisley print. This was paired with nude accessories.

After a private vegetarian lunch, the couple headed off to their afternoon engagements, on an open-top bus from the hotel to Oval Maidan, where they participated in a cricket match that included Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who said that the Duchess was the better player out of the couple (Kate was caught out by one of the children though).

William and Kate, who had changed into a flowy printed dress by local designer Anita Dongre, also participated in a number of sports drills and spent time chatting with children that benefit from the three charities – Childline, Door Step School and Magic Bus – that the Bollywood gala the couple will attend this evening will raise funds for.

The children from the Door Step School even tried to teach their visitors some Hindi.

It was then on to the Banganga Water Tank, an ancient water tank that is part of the Walkeshwar Temple Complex. Here, William and Kate were presented with colourful orange garlands and scattered petals in the water as part of a traditional ceremony. They also met with representatives of the charity SMILE as they saw the slums of the area.
