Dashing Prince Harry Kicks Off Nepalese Visit

Prince Harry has begun his multi-day visit to the mountainous country of Nepal, arriving in Kathmandu on Saturday and meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Then at a reception later in the day, the Prince delivered a speech in which he mentioned last year’s devastating earthquakes: “I pay my respects to those who perished and hope to do what I can to shine a spotlight on the resilience of the Nepali people…I want to show all those around the world who want to help that this country is open for business.”

The Prince today then met with President Bidhya Devi Bhandari, telling her how excited he was to be visiting Nepal and in particular paying his respects to the Gurkhas, as he served with Gurkha troops while he was in Afghanistan.

Afterwards it was a stop by the historic Patan Durbar Square, where Harry was given a tour of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and spoke with workers that are restoring the ancient royal palace.

Harry also was given the opportunity to try his own hand at wood carving, he studiously watched as he was shown an example before tapping his own equipment together. “I can’t do it, not many people can. I am showing how hard it is to do this – wow,” Harry said with a laugh.

It was then on to Bhaktapur to visit the Nepali Red Cross site funded by the United Kingdom that provided supplies to help in the earthquake recovery effort. Prince Harry was given a tour of the site and met with families who are living in a camp after they lost their homes.
