Spain’s King and Queen Visit Puerto Rico
King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia have travelled to Puerto Rico to attend the opening of the 7th International Congress of the Spanish Language, which began at the Convention Centre in Miramar yesterday.
The couple were officially welcomed by the island’s Governor, Alejandro García Padilla, and his wife. King Felipe delivered a speech at the event, before he and Letizia – who was wearing a very smart pale pink skirt suit – presented the ASALE medal to the family of Miguel Aleman Valdes, the President of Mexico between 1946 and 1952.
Among the stops during their first day on the island were visits to the Santa Catalina Palace and the San Juan Museum. At the museum, the couple were shown an exhibition titled ‘Quijotes of the World’ that held a number of works by Spanish author Cervantes.
