Charles and Camilla’s Balkan Tour: Day Two

On the second day of their visit to Croatia as part of their tour of the Balkans, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall met with a number of different segments of the community.

They began their day in Tvrđa where they visited the Intangible Cultural Festival, touring the stalls selling produce and handmade goods. Charles and Camilla also watched several performances by traditional local folklore groups.

Also on the agenda was a stop at the archaeological museum where both royals had engagements relating to personal interests and causes: Prince Charles met with religious leaders for an interfaith dialogue meeting, while the Duchess spent time learning about how sexual violence was used as a weapon during the Croatian War of Independence.

Later on they visited the Osijek Co-Cathedral to see the restoration works and viewed an exhibition on the damage the cathedral sustained during the war.

The couple split again in the late afternoon, Charles heading off to the east of the country to see the Kopački Rit Wetlands and the Zlatna Greda Eco-Centre. Both centres focus on preservation of the environment.

Camilla, meanwhile, wearing one of her favourite fur-brimmed hats, was shown the Lippizzaner mares and foals at the Đakovo State Stud Farm.

In the evening the Prince of Wales had a solo engagement at the Arts and Crafts Museum to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the British Council in Croatia. Among the guests at the reception was Croatian-Serbian actor Rade Šerbedžija, who played Prince Kuragin on the fifth season of Downton Abbey.
