“World’s Most Experienced Plaque Unveiler” Opens New Military Barracks
The Duke of Edinburgh described himself as the “world’s most experienced plaque unveiler” today as he officially opened The Prince Philip Barracks at the MoD Lyneham in Wiltshire.
“I hope you realise what you’re about to see now is the world’s most experienced plaque unveiler in action,” the Prince – who routinely cracks a joke while on engagements – said to the crowd as he pulled back the curtain revealing the plaque.
He was then given a tour of the new military training grounds, which are the new headquarters of one of the regiments Philip is Colonel-in-Chief of, the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers.
Prince Philip spent three hours at the barracks, spending much of the time asking questions to the trainees and military personnel about their training programs.
