William and Kate To Visit Taj Mahal On Indian Tour

Kensington Palace has confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit the Taj Mahal during their spring tour of India.

The site – while being India’s most iconic landmark – is also very much viewed as a poignant moment in the breakdown of William’s parents, Charles and Diana. The late Princess visited the Taj Mahal during the Wales’ 1992 tour of India, and the photographs of her sitting alone in front of the building – a symbol of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan’s love for his wife – led to rampant speculation in the press (the couple’s separation was announced months later).

William and Kate will be in India between April 10 and 16, visiting Mumbai, New Delhi, Kaziranga and Agra. During their tour, the Cambridges will focus their engagements young people, sport, the reduction of urban poverty, wildlife and rural communities. They will also honour the country’s history and cultural heritage.

They will also head to Bhutan on April 14 and 15, where they will meet King Jigme Khesar and Queen Jetsun Pema.
