Prince Philip Passes Air Cadets Role To Duchess of Cambridge

The Duke of Edinburgh today handed over one of his longest-held roles, that of Air Commodore-in-Chief of the RAF Air Training Cadets, to the Duchess of Cambridge.

During an audience at Buckingham Palace, the Duchess accepted her first military-linked role, which according to Air Commodore Dawn McCafferty will allow her to see the “amazing work” performed by volunteers in delivering “a truly world-class cadet experience to many thousands of young people.”

Two cadets were selected to attend the audience and presented the two commodore-in-chiefs with gifts to mark the hand-over: Prince Philip received a crystal vase engraved with the logo of the Cadets’ 75th anniversary (which is next year) and Catherine received a copy of a book detailing the history of the organisation.

Prince Philip first became affiliated with the Cadets in 1953 following the death of his father-in-law, George VI.
