Swedish Royals Attend Nobel Prize Ceremony
While the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded earlier in the day in Oslo, the Prizes in other categories were presented in Stockholm.
The entire Swedish Royal Family were present for the glittering awards ceremony that takes place at the Stockholm Concert Hall, which was this year attended by close to 1,600 guess. King Carl XVI Gustaf presented each of the laureates with their Prizes.
This year the laureates were in physics, Takaaki Kajita and Arthur B. McDonald; in chemistry Tomas Lindahl, Paul Modrich and Aziz Sancar; in physiology or medicine William C. Campbell, Satoshi Ōmura and Tu Youyou; in literature Svetlana Alexievich; and in economic sciences Angus Deaton.
Afterwards a traditional banquet was held at the Stockholm City Hall. The Royal Family, the Chairman of the Nobel Foundation and the laureates entered the Blue Hall decorated in golds, pinks and yellows via the grand staircase. The guests feasted on a menu featuring turbot and scallops, and baked veal wrapped in mushrooms and celery created by chefs Sayan Isaksson and Daniel Roos.
Queen Silvia kept her ensemble simple in a plain red skirt and jacket combination paired with the diamond Nine Prong Tiara. The two pregnant Princess – Victoria and Sofia – went with gowns that complimented their growing shapes, Victoria in a flowing eggplant gown with a chiffon cape from By Malina and the Connaught Diamond Tiara, Sofia in a black Oscar de la Renta gown.

Princess Madeleine meanwhile chose a favourite of her sister’s, Fadi el Khoury, for the event, donning a delicate grey beaded gown (the big surprise in the attire department was the tiara atop Madeleine’s head – the aquamarine kokoshnik tiara belonging to her aunt, Princess Margaretha). Princess Christina went for black and white, and the Six Button Tiara.
