Princess Astrid Attends Christmas Tree Lighting in London
Norway’s Princess Astrid tonight attended the lighting of the Christmas tree in London’s Trafalgar Square.
Accompanied by the Mayor of Westminster, the Norwegian Ambassador to the UK and the Mayor of Oslo, Princess Astrid watched on as the 20-metre high tree was lit up for the first time this holiday season. She also attended the Christmas concert at St Martin-in-the-Fields as part of the lighting ceremony.
The tree is gifted to London by the city of Oslo each year as a “token of Norwegian gratitude to the people of London for their assistance during the years 194-45”. The first tree, typically a Norway spruce, was gifted in 1947.
