The pair, both with French roots, were joined by Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen, other members of the Danish government and France’s Ambassador to Denmark, Francois Zimeray. Princess Marie, who was born in Paris, was visibly moved during the service led by preacher Philip Maury.

“What has taken place is a horror…My thoughts go to those who have been affected and to those who are not here anymore. But it’s not just an attack against France, but against the whole world. I would say the same, as I said after the attacks in Copenhagen: We must continue our way of living and be free in mind and look on the bright side…It is clear that we now are sad. But tomorrow is a new day, and the sun rises again,” Crown Prince Frederik said to the media after the service.

129 people were killed in the French capital during a series of coordinated terror attacks on Friday night, the deadliest act on French soil since World War Two.
