Queen Mathilde In Ethiopia: Days One and Two

As Honorary President of UNICEF Belgium, Her Majesty Queen Mathilde started on Monday November 9, a four day mission to Ethiopia which lasts till November 12. The purpose of the mission is to visit UNICEF’s activities to the survival of the young children in different parts of the country.

Upon her arrival at the airport of Addis Ababa, the Queen was welcomed by Zenebu Tadesse, the Minister of Women, Children and Youth. After a meeting with the Minister, Queen Mathilde visited the Yekatit 12 Hospital where she was greeted by Eshetu Dessie, Vice President of the Oromia Region. During the visit at the hospital the Queen talked with the medical staff about their work and she met with little patients and their relatives.

Afterwards, Queen Mathilde had a roundtable meeting with some members of the Association of Women in Business (AWiB), an Ethiopian networking association that helps women in their personal and professional lives.

On her second day of the mission, Tuesday November 10, the Queen was in Jijiga, the Capital of the Somali Region in the Eastern Ethiopia.  At her arrival, Queen Mathilde was greeted by the Somali Regional President Abdi Mohamud Omar and other local autorities.  The Queen went to the village of Gursum where she visited and was briefed about the UNICEF project that provides water supply for more than 4000 people.
