Queen Elizabeth & Prince Philip Open School of Veterinary Medicine
Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh made the trip to the University of Surrey today to open their new £45m School of Veterinary Medicine.
The couple were given a tour of the state-of-the-art facilities, including the stables where the Queen quickly recognised one of the horses housed there. “Home bred!” she exclaimed, turning to her husband and informing him that the horse was “Mary Tudor”, a mare who used to live at the Buckingham Palace stables before she was retired.
Also during their tour of the Large Animals Clinical Skills Building, Prince Philip showed his knowledge and interest in cows. The monarch and her husband also saw labs which use technology to help improve animal health.
