England’s Loss Doesn’t Dampen Harry’s Spirits During Kids Rugby Visit

Despite his team crashing out in the pool stage of the Rugby World Cup over the weekend, Prince Harry’s spirits were still high today when he headed to Devon to promote the sport at grassroots level.

At Paignton Rugby Club, the Prince was greeted by a number of children from schools that have implemented the Rugby Football Union’s All Schools Programme (of which Harry is patron) that encourages children to start playing rugby.

Watching them practice and run drills, Harry then asked the group who they thought would win the World Cup now that England was out of the running, and ended up giving his own thoughts on the matter: “Everyone keeps saying Japan. It would be fantastic if Japan won,” he said when shouts of ‘Japan’ were heard from the students.

During the visit, Prince Harry also presented the club with the RFU’s Gold Standard Award for the recent £35,000 refurbishment of their club house transforming it in to main community hub. In return the Prince received a gift of his own: a pair of rugby boots etched with his name.

Later, Harry was present for the pool match between Namibia and Georgia in Exeter (Georgia won 17-16). “It’s still going to be the best World Cup ever,” he said about the event, despite England’s exit.
