Lalla Salma Marks 10th Anniversary of Her Cancer Foundation
On Saturday evening, Princess Lalla Salma hosted a gala dinner to celebrate the tenth anniversary of her cancer foundation, the Lalla Salma Foundation for Cancer Prevention and Treatment.
The gala had the theme of ‘solidarity and sharing’ with the aim of raising funds to build an oncology centre in Béni Mellal, a city in the centre of the country at the base of Mount Tassemit, as well as an oncology centre in Laayoune in Western Sahara. 150million dirhams (13.7million€, $USD15.4million) was raised at the event.
Entertainment was provided highlighting the culture of Morocco, and the Princess delivered a speech in which she thanked her husband, King Mohammed VI, for his support of the foundation and that she hoped the gala “offers hope regarding the possibility of combating any illness”.
Founded in 2005, the foundation was originally called the Lalla Salma Association to Fight Cancer.
