Prinsjesdag 2015

Today, Tuesday September 15, the Dutch Royal Family celebrated the traditional opening of the Parliament, Prinsjesdag.

His Majesty King Willem-Alexander was accompanied by his wife, Her Majesty Queen Maxima, his brother Prince Constantijn and his sister-in-law, Princess Laurentien. The Dutch Royals left Noordeinde Palace at around 13:00 heading to the Knight’s Hall in the Golden Carriage through the streets of The Hague. Princess Beatrix saw the procession of the carriages from the steps of the Mauritshuis Museum.

The King began his speech talking about the improving of the economy, he said that the Dutch economy is growing and the number of jobs is increasing and he praised the work made by entrepreneurs and employees. King Willem-Alexander also mentioned the threat of terrorism and the refugees crisis. He praised the Dutch soldiers for their committment to peace and security. He added that security and migration will be the two main fields of the Dutch EU Presidency in the first half of 2016. The King also mentioned climate change and sustainable economy in his speech, reminding the upcoming climate summit in Paris in December 2015.

At around 14:00, the Dutch Royal Family left the Ridderzaal heading back to the Noordeinde Palace where  the traditional balcony appearance took place.

Queen Maxima wore a custom-made gown by Jan Taminiau. The print on the dress was inspired by the Japanese room in Huis ten Bosch. Princess Laurentien wore a green gown with a hat.
