British Royals Attend Annual Highland Gathering in Scotland
Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Peter and Autumn Phillips attended the Braemar Highland Gathering in Aberdeen today. The royal family are regulars at the event, which is just a short drive from their Scottish home, Balmoral Castle.
Just days before she reaches the milestone of becoming Britain’s longest reigning monarch, Elizabeth II was seen wearing a red suit and sharing a blanket with her husband at the games.
Some of the events at the Highland Gathering include traditional Scottish dances, tug of war and hammer throwing. The Highland Gathering, although infamous for being a long event, attracts many visitors from across the globe and was first attended by royalty in 1848 when Queen Victoria watched the games.
