British Royals Mark Battle of Britain 75th Anniversary

Members of Britain’s royal family paid tribute to the pilots who fought in the Battle of Britain today, on the 75th anniversary of the Battle’s start, watching a flypast over Buckingham Palace and attending a reception at the RAF Club.

Queen Elizabeth, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Duke of Cambridge, the Duke of York, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, the Duke of Gloucester, the Duke of Kent, Prince Michael of Kent and Princess Alexandra of Kent were all on the balcony of the Palace this morning for the flypast, which saw World War Two-era Spitfires and Hurricanes, along with modern Typhoon jets, fly across London.

Afterwards, the royal party – minus the Queen, Prince Andrew and Prince Michael – headed over to the RAF Club in Piccadilly for a luncheon with veteran airmen who took part in the Battle.

The royals spoke at length with the invited veterans and currently serving RAF personnel, before posing for a photograph with six surviving RAF pilots who fought in the Battle.
