Queen Sofia Receives Award from Spanish UNICEF Committee
Spain’s Queen Sofia today was presented with the Joaquin Ruiz-Giménez Award from the Spanish UNICEF Committee in a ceremony at the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC).
The prize was awarded to the former Queen due to her five decades of commitment and work in defence of the most vulnerable, particularly children. Queen Letizia, the organisation’s Honorary President, was on hand to deliver the award to her mother-in-law.
“You have left work that will be hard to emulate,” Queen Letizia said about her mother-in-law in her speech at the event, in which she also praised Queen Sofia’s “valuable, quiet and very useful work” for the organisation.
Queen Sofia was the Honorary President of the Spanish UNICEF Committee from 1971 until 2014.
