Luxembourg celebrated it’s National Day today, which also doubles as the Grand Duke’s official birthday, and the entire Grand Ducal family was out en force for the events of the day.

First it was over to the Philharmonie Luxembourg for the official National Day ceremony, which is a new tradition that only began last year. Speeches were given by Grand Duke Henri and Prime Minister Xavier Bettel at the reception which was attended by the government and diplomatic corps.

Grand Duchess Maria Teresa, Hereditary Grand Duchess Stéphanie, Princess Claire, Princess Tessy and Princess Alexandra all received bouquets of flowers upon arrival, presented to them by the young daughter of a Luxembourgish policewoman killed in the line of duty earlier this month.

Afterwards the Grand Ducal and Hereditary Grand Ducal Couples were present for the traditional military parade along Avenue de la Liberté. The Grand Duke inspected a guard of soldiers.

At 4:30pm, the family arrived at the Cathedrale de Luxembourg for a Te Deum service. The Archbishop of Luxembourg, Jean-Claude Hollerich, led the service but was joined for prayers by Chief Rabbi Alain Nacache, Imam Muhamed Rizvic, and Pastor Volker Strauß of the Protestant Church of Luxembourg.

In the evening, a banquet was held at the Grand Ducal Palace for members of official Luxembourg which saw five tiaras pop up on the heads of the royal ladies.
