Death of James Carnegie, Duke of Fife
The 3rd Duke of Fife, James Carnegie, passed away today at Kinnaird Castle in Angus, Scotland. He was 85.
Born in 1929, James was the only child of Princess Maud, daughter of Louise, Princess Royal and Alexander Duff, 1st Duke of Fife, and Charles Carnegie, 11th Earl of Southesk. He became the Duke of Fife in 1959 upon the death of his maternal aunt, Princess Arthur of Connaught, Duchess of Fife. He became the Earl of Southesk in 1992.
As a descendant of King Edward VII, the Duke was 67th in the line for the British throne.
The Duke’s only son, David Carnegie, has become the 4th Duke of Fife.
