British Royals At The Annual Order Of The Garter Service
On June 15, the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh led the annual Order of the Garter procession through Windsor Castle.
Other members of the royal family taking part in the ceremony were the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge, the Duke of York, the Earl of Wessex, the Princess Royal, the Duke of Gloucester and Princess Alexandra of Kent. The Duchess of Cornwall, the Countess of Wessex and the Duchess of Gloucester were spotted watching their husbands take part in the ceremony.
The Queen and some other members of the royal family had just come from a commemorative event in connection with the Magna Carta’s eight hundredth anniversary.
The Order of the Garter is the oldest of the British Royal orders and was founded by King Edward III in 1348. Foreign monarchs can also be appointed as members of the Order, a practice which was first introduced in the fourteenth century.
