The Duchess of Cornwall Unveils Winston Churchill Memorials
The Duchess of Cornwall headed west to Oxfordshire today to unveil new memorials to Britain’s wartime Prime Minister, Sir Winston Churchill.
She first unveiled a stained glass window designed by Emma Blount at St Martin’s Church in Bladon that bares images associated with Churchill. The Duchess also laid a small bouquet of flowers on the grave of Churchill and his wife Clementine in the church’s graveyard.
Afterwards, Camilla travelled to nearby Blenheim Palace, Churchill’s birthplace, where she unveiled the Palace’s new Churchill Memorial Garden. A large bust of Churchill has been created from a mould made by Oscar Nemon. It takes pride of place in the centre of the memorial garden.
Camilla, in a blue skirt suit and silk scarf, was joined by the 12th Duke of Marlborough, Jamie Spencer-Churchill, the current occupant of Blenheim Palace and a distant relative of the late Prime Minister, and other members of the Spencer-Churchill family.
The memorials have been erected to mark the fiftieth anniversary of Churchill’s death, which occurred on January 24, 1965.
