The Duke of York Attends Founder’s Day Parade at RHC

Prince Andrew, Duke of York was present at the Founder’s Day Parade at the Royal Hospital Chelsea this morning, where he took the salute from veterans during the parade.

The Duke also delivered a speech, in which he called the Chelsea Pensioners – the veterans who live at the Royal Hospital Chelsea – “epitomes of what we would classify as service to the crown.”

“The lifelong service that you have given should never ever be forgotten,” he said. During the event, Prince Andrew walked around the parade ground and spoke with some of the veterans present. He then went inside the retirement home and met with veterans unable to participate in the parade because of their health.

During the parade, 19 of the Chelsea Pensioners were honoured with the Légion d’Honneur, the highest national decoration of France. They received their decoration from France’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Sylvie Bermann. The veterans who received the honour were all involved in the Normandy Campaign of World War Two.
