Second Day of the Spanish State Visit to France
King Felipe and Queen Letizia today continued their state visit to France, meeting with a number of organisations and individuals in Paris.
The day began with an audience with the Mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, at the Guild Hall. During the meeting, the King and Queen opened a new garden symbolising peace and freedom. Afterwards, the couple headed over to the Palacio Petit Luxembourg where they met with the President of the Senate, Gerard Larcher.
Lunch was had with Prime Minister Manuel Valls, before an afternoon visit to the French National Assembly where the King delivered a speech discussing European unity and defence against terrorism. “A united Europe is necessary for the progress and welfare of our society’s condition and to overcome and avoid the decline, weakness, fragmentation, and even confrontation, that in the past led our people to the darkest moments of European history,” King Felipe said.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia in the evening attended a reception at the Spanish Embassy for around 400 members of the Spanish community living in France. The Queen wore a simple black cocktail dress with a pair of strappy black heels.
