Second Day of the Indian State Visit to Sweden
President Mukherjee of India has continued his state visit to Sweden today, meeting members of Parliament and attending a seminar on sustainable urban development.
The first stop of day two was to the Parliament, where President Mukherjee had a meeting with the Speaker of Parliament, Urban Ahlin, and Prime Minister Stefan Löfven. The meetings discussed cooperation and relations between the two nations going forward in terms of trade and development.
Members of the Royal Family then joined the visiting head of state at a seminar at the City Hally on the topic of sustainable urban development, where Stockholm was a city used as an example of sustainability, which has a implemented a number of different schemes to decrease the environmental impact of the city’s residents. The King and the President then later visited Hammarby Sjoestad by boat.
In the evening, the President was guest of honour at a state dinner hosted by King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia at the Royal Palace. The dinner, in Karl XI’s Gallery, was also attended by the Crown Princess Couple and Prince Carl Philip and Sofia Hellqvist. King Carl Gustaf delivered a speech highlighting the strong relationship that has developed between Sweden and India over the last half century.
