The Duke of Cambridge was this evening present at a black-tie dinner to mark the 25th anniversary of the Tusk Trust at Windsor Castle.

300 guests attended the dinner in St George’s Hall, where the Duke delivered a speech calling for further work to be done to protect African wildlife. “The plunder and destruction of Africa’s natural endowment remains one of the greatest challenges facing the world…the time for words has long gone – we must see action,” he said, making references to the increasing number of animals which are being slaughtered for parts.

He also praised the organisation’s efforts over the past 25 years, raising £25million to the benefit of 36 endangered species. The Trust has also helped build 30 schools and supports 450 game guards at conservancies on the continent.

Among the guests were singer Katherine Jenkins, comedian Rory Bremner and American artist and film producer Andrew Levitas.

Prince William has been Royal Patron of the Tusk Trust since December 2005.
