Dutch Royals attend ”Appeltjes van Oranje 2015”
Today, Thursday May 21, Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, along with Princess Beatrix attended the ”Appeltjes van Oranje 2015” award ceremony at Palace Nooreinde in The Hague. The theme of the award this year was: “Better for each other!”. It’s about people with difficulty to get along in society for socioeconomics reasons.
The winners of ”Appeltjes van Oranje 2015” were: “Food Aid Foundation Focus” from Amersfoort, a foundation that provides weekly food parcels to some 400 households in the region; “Dutch Foundation New Connections” from Utrecht, it helps young people to develop their talent; “Foundation Krusada” from Bonaire, since 1999 it helps ex-prisoners and former addicts to prepare to return to society. During the last trip to Bonaire at the beginning of May, the King and the Queen visited the Foundation.
The prize consists of a bronze sculpture designed by Princess Beatrix and 15,000 euros.
Queen Maxima started her speech saying that she and King Willem-Alexander are proud of the Orange Fund. The Queen stressed the importance of “socio-economic opportunities to get ahead in life.” She also praised the three foundations for their work towards people who for bad luck, lack of education or personal problems, haven’t found their way in life yet. The Queen also mentioned her visit to “Foundation Krusada” in Bonaire along with the King.
The “Appeltjes van Oranje”started in 2003 an annual award of the “Oranje Fonds”. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima are patrons of the Orange Fund.
