Norway’s King Presents Abel Prize 2015
King Harald V of Norway today presented the Abel Prize, one of the most prestigious awards in the mathematic field, to John Forbes Nash, Jr and Louis Nirenberg.
The two men won this year’s award for their “striking and seminal contributions to the theory of nonlinear partial differential equations and its applications to geometric analysis.” Mr Nash and Mr Nirenberg will each receive a prize of 6million Norwegian kroner.
Earlier in the day, the King granted the two prize winners an audience at the Royal Palace.
The Abel Prize was first awarded in 2003, and is delivered by the Norwegian Government. It is named after the Norwegian mathematician, Niels Henrik Abel.
