A few thousand members of the public were invited to the celebrations, which included a performance of the Romanian Military Band. Crown Princess Margarita, Prince Radu, Prince Nicolae and Princess Maria watched from one of the palace balconies overlooking the courtyard.

Earlier in the day, the family laid a wreath at the statute of Carol I in the Royal Palace Square.

The royal family has held a garden party on May 10 annually for the past six years. May 10 is also Romania’s Independence Day, marking the country’s win in the Romanian War of Independence (1877-78) which saw Romania split from the Ottoman Empire.
