Monaco’s Princely Twins Have Been Christened

The twins of Prince Albert II and Princess Charlène of Monaco were christened this morning in a ceremony at the Cathédrale de Monaco.

Hereditary Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, dressed in white gowns reportedly from Baby Dior, were baptised into the Roman Catholic faith by Bernard Barsi, the Archbishop of Monaco. Around 700 guests were in attendance in the Cathédrale, including the twins’ paternal aunts, Princesses Caroline and Stephanie.

During more solemn periods of the service, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella were looked after by nannies in a side room, including when their parents took care of the formalities – signing the christening certificates. At one point, the twins were seen happily reaching out to each other and cooing.

After taking a group photograph with the godparents and immediate family, Prince Albert and Princess Charlene – looking fantastic in an ivory dress with attached bolero-style jacket – stepped out onto the main staircase of the Cathédrale to show off their children to the waiting Monaco public. The couple then walked back to the Palace.

Prior to the ceremony, the godparents of the twins were announced by the Prince’s Palace: Christopher Le Vine Jr and Diane de Polignac Nigra are Jacques’ godparents, while Gareth Wittstock and Nerine Pienaar are Gabriella’s.
