Princess Charlotte’s Birth Registered Before Meeting Relatives

Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, the latest addition to the British Royal Family, was registered at Westminster Register Office in London on May 5.

Her parents’ occupations were listed  as “Prince and Princess of the United Kingdom” on the birth certificate, whilst Charlotte’s full name was registered as Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge.

A formal statement was made by Kensington Palace upon Princess Charlotte’s registration:

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have formally registered the birth of Princess Charlotte. The Duke of Cambridge signed the birth register at Kensington Palace this afternoon witnessed by a registrar from Westminster Register Office. Princess Charlotte’s birth register document will be kept, along with thousands of others, at the Westminster Registration Office.”

Later in the afternoon, the newest royal was paid a visit by her great-grandparents and paternal grandfather at Kensington Palace. The visit has historical value as it is the first time a reigning monarch has visited a great-granddaughter in the immediate line of succession since Queen Victoria met Mary, Princess Royal one hundred and eighteen years ago.
