Princess Beatrix Opens War Exhibition in Curaçao

Yesterday, Saturday May 2, Princess Beatrix of the Netherlands was in Curaçao to open the exhibition “Guera na Kòrsou?! War in 1940-1945 Curaçao” at the Museum of Willemstad, the capital of Curaçao.

At her arrival in the museum, the Princess received a warm welcome with a guard of honor, was greeted by Michèle Russel-Capriles, who launched the idea of the exhibition one year ago, and the children of the choir “Kòrsou al Belcanto” who performed a song. The Governor Curaçao, Lucille George-Wout, and the Prime Minister, Ivar Asjes, were present as well.

The purpose of the exhibition is to show the role of the Caribbean island during World War II. The exhibition shows objects, images and documents about Curaçao during the war and it was organized in collaboration with the National Archives, the National Archaeological Anthropological Memory Management (NAME) and the Foundation Battle Station Blaauw, Force Curacao 1942.

The Princess made a tour of the Museum and then she met men who fought during the World War II.

It was the first visit in Curaçao for Princess Beatrix since her resignation in 2013.
