During his visit to the new facilities, Prince Charles played badminton and table tennis with local school children who will benefit from the new gym. He also hopped on an stationary exercise bike that will be used for spin classes.

The climbing wall however got a pass from the heir to the throne, who said that it “looks unbelievably scary.”

Prince Charles is the Great Steward of Scotland’s Dumfries House Trust. In 2007, he helped to save the estate – and its large Chippendale furniture collection – from begin split up and sold at auction as its then owner, John Crichton-Stuart, the 7th Marquess of Bute. The Prince contributed a £20m loan via The Prince’s Charities Foundation to the overall price of £45m raised to purchase the estate.
