Princess Beatrice of York opened The Talbot Memorial Garden at the Crosfields School in Reading earlier today. The garden is in memory of a four-year-old girl who died from an inoperable brain tumor in January 2013.

The Princess was presented with flowers from an 8 year old pupil and listened to a few performances. Dressed in a tan trench coat with leather brown trim, Princess Beatrice planted a cherry tree and talked to a few students.

At the end of the visit, Princess Beatrice said, “You are the most wonderful school and we are all so lucky that we are standing in this beautiful garden. I am so thankful to you for having me and giving me such a wonderful welcome. Thank you also to the teachers for doing such a good job, creating such wonderful children.”

The headmaster of the school said of Princess Beatrice’s opening: “It has been a real honour to welcome Her Royal Highness to Crosfields to open officially our Talbot Memorial Garden. The garden itself is a very special place right in the heart of our school. It is a quiet area where the children can relax with a book or with friends, write poetry, draw and study. The visit by Princess Beatrice has marked a momentous occasion in the history of Crosfields and we are very grateful to her for taking the time to talk with the children and staff.”
