Imperial Family Hosts Indonesian President

The President of Indonesia is currently on an official visit to Japan, where he and his wife were welcomed by the Imperial Family.

Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko greeted President Joko Widodo and First Lady Iriana Widodo at the Imperial Palace earlier today. After an audience between the two couples, Empress Michiko led her guests into the Ninomaru Garden where they fed the carp fishes which live in the garden ponds. Crown Prince Naruhito joined them.

President Widodo later met with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and the Indonesian and Japanese delegations signed a defence pact “promoting dialogue and cooperation.”
