Dutch Royal Family Participate in NL DOET 2015

Like every year, the Dutch Royal Family attended the National Volunteer Day, NL DOET, on March 20 and 21.

On Friday March 20, Princess Beatrix, Prince Bernhard, Princess Annette, Prince Floris, Princess Aimée and Tjalling Ten Cate helped at the Nursing Home Norschoten in Barneveld. They were there along with a large group of students from high schools.

Princess Beatrix cleaned the doors and windows of the greenhouse, Princess Aimée helped out by planting flowers in the garden with some students. Prince Bernhard, Prince Floris and Tjalling ten Cate played with bowls inside the nursing home with the residents. The Princes also cleaned the garden of the residence.

Princess Annette recreated a little beauty salon for the older women. She, along with some girls from the high schools, gave manicures to the ladies.

Prince Maurits and Princess Marilène helped in the renovation of the rosarium of the Vondelpark in Amsterdam. Prince Maurits is patron of the Foundation Hart voor het Vondelpark.

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima helped on Saturday March 21 in a sport center in Tricht, a town in the municipality of Gelderland. Queen Maxima painted the walls of the gym with a roller brush, while King Willem-Alexander helping dyeing the floors of the gym and painted the storage room. Along with the Royal Couple were present some volunteers.

The King stressed the importance of volunteering: “A wonderful opportunity to put volunteering in the sun and a good reason to look for an association.”

Around 300,000 volunteers helped in the eleventh edition of NL DOET. The National Volunteer Day also took place in Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, St. Maarten and St. Eustatius. NL DOET is organized by “The Oranje Fund”. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima are patrons of the organisation. “The Orange Fund” was created in 2002.
