Prince William Holds Investiture at Buckingham Palace
The Duke of Cambridge today held an investiture on behalf of the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
Prince William presented the two men who came up with the idea for the Tower of London poppies installation (called Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red), artist Paul Cummins and theatre designer Tom Piper, with the insignia of Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). The two were honoured for services to art and theatre, respectively, and services to First World War commemorations.
“The Duke congratulated me on the installation and the impact it had on society. I said he was part of it [because of his August visit] as I think once we had that royal visit it began to take off and people began to realise what it was about,” Mr Piper said after the ceremony.
Others who were honoured at the investiture were entrepreneur James Caan, also a former judge on Dragon’s Den and was told by Prince William that “we miss you on the show”, who was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire, and Sir Adrian Cadbury, the former chairman of Cadbury and Cadbury Schweppes, who was made a Member of the Order of Companions of Honour.
