What does one do when visiting a wine maker to celebrate the hundredth anniversary of their first production? Sample some of the product, of course!

Spain’s King Felipe and Queen Letizia were in the village of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia today at wine company Freixenet’s factory. They make Cava, a Spanish sparkling wine that is mainly produced in Catalonia.

Here, the couple were given a tour of the factory by the President of the Freixenet Group, José Luis Bonet, during which Felipe and Letizia signed their names on a barrel of Cava in the cellars housing the liquor.

150 guests attended the luncheon given to celebrate the anniversary, and the royal visit, and all naturally had glasses of Freixenet Cava with their meal. The King and Queen toasted the company with Mr Bonet, following a speech made by the King in which he said, “Freixenet is the best image of our [Spanish] spirit and our best business achievements.”
