Belgian Royals Attend Mass for the Deceased
The Belgian Royal Family today attended the annual mass in honour of the deceased members of the family at the Church of Our Lady of Laeken.
King Philippe and Queen Mathilde led the family, including King Albert II and Queen Paola, Princess Claire, Princess Astrid and Archduke Lorenz, Princess Esméralda and Princess Léa, in the celebration. Also present were Prince Nikolaus and Princess Margaretha of Liechtenstein, whose infant son Leopold is interred in the church’s royal crypt.
During the mass, a special dedication was made to the late Queen Fabiola, who died in December last year.
The Church of Our Lady of Laeken was built between 1854 and 1909, and is the resting place of Belgium’s five deceased Kings – Leopold I, Leopold II, Albert I, Leopold III and Baudouin – as well as other members of the royal family.
