Funeral of Johan Martin Ferner
Johan Martin Ferner, the husband of Princess Astrid of Norway, was farewelled today in a private funeral service at the Holmenkollen Chapel in Oslo.
The entire Norwegian Royal Family was present, and were greeted by Mr Ferner’s two sons, Alexander and Carl-Christian, when they arrived to the chapel. Princess Astrid and the couple’s three daughters were already inside, having arrived at 12:15pm for the 1pm service.
Bishop Sigurd Osberg and Vicar Jan-Erik Heffermehl led the service, which featured a trumpet solo by Ole Edvard Antonsen and a song performed by the Sølvguttene. The chapel was filled with wreaths from family members, friends and the Norwegian Sailing Association.
Following the service, the two Ferner sons acted as pallbearers while the family gathered around the hearse for a final goodbye before the car left for the cemetery.
