Spanish Introductory Visit to Germany

King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia started a two-day introductory visit to Germany today.

The Royal Couple, accompanied by the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, José Manuel García-Margallo, arrived at Berlin-Tegel Airport around 12 o’clock.

Then the King and the Queen went to the Presidential Palace, the Bellevue Palace, were they were welcomed by German President Joachim Gauck and the First Lady, Daniela Schadt. King Felipe and President Gauck inspected the guard of honor. Before they headed inside the Palace, the Royal Couple along with the President and the First Lady, greeted a group of school children who were gathered outside.

The King, the Queen and the Presidential Couple went inside the Palace where, after signing the Book of Honor and a meeting, took place a press conference held by King Felipe and the President. President Gauck and the First Lady hosted a lunch in honor of the King and the Queen.

In the afternoon, King Felipe and Queen Letizia visited the Brandeburg Gate in the Pariser Platz with the Mayor of Berlin, Klaus Wowereit. After, the King and the Queen went to the City Hall where they signed the Golden Book and had a meeting with the Mayor.

Later, King Felipe and Queen Letizia had a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in the Federal Chancellery and visited the Bundestag, the German Parliament, where they were received by Mr Norbert Lammert, President of the Bundestag.

The first day of the visit ended with a reception at the Spanish Embassy in the presence of members of the German society.

Doña Letizia chose a total Hugo Boss look, with a black and white striped pattern skirt, a white blouse, a black jacket and a simple red coat. The Queen completed the outfit with a black Hugo Boss clutch and black CH Carolina Herrera pumps.
